You should seriously realise that there's nothing anybody here can do about it. Check with someone by phone and see if there's more than one person with the issue, and if that's the case, find something else to do while waiting.
The future holds bright things in it\\\'s path, but only time will tell what they are and where they come from.

RE: Windows Live Messenger down for anyone else?
Would it be possible to ping some of the severs and the moment one is down, automatically update a webpage lets say for instance msghelp.net/status?
If only I knew what I should put here

Sure it's possible, but that wouldn't cover intermittent issues, regional issues, or functional issues. It would be about as useful as the official messenger status page.

I don't know about that, I have never seen that page displayed differently.
Define intermittent issues and and functional issues please.
Are different addresses stored on different severs based on country? Wouldn't that be why one country could have a problem and others wont? Couldn't you ping one sever from each country?
I don't know where I'm going with this
Thanks wj for you answer though.

Yes, Messenger uses a lot of servers depending on your location and even depending on your account and depending on what function you use or in what state of 'logging in' you are.
And even then, it might be possible that one account uses one set of servers and the other account (with same regional settings) uses another set of servers.
Then there are also several different servers for the Messenger service as a whole: you have a switchboard server, a notification server, a data server, etc, each has its own function and each is needed for you to be able to chat.
There is not a 'one big server' which does everything.
That is indeed why some problems might be regional and that some people report issues while the others have got no problems at all. And other problems might affect only one of your accounts while the other account works perfectly. AFAIK the server status page of Messenger is accurate, but it only shows global problems, not local problems. I have seen it shown other stuff then "everything is normal".
It is indeed not possible to ping each and every server (also probably because there isn't any 'list' of all the servers).

then what use is that? apart from helping m$ to know its all gone tits up, but then, they'd know if any of the server's were acting up, so what purpose would the status page serve?

To tell the users if there are global problems.
