Hi,

I'm running Windows Live Messenger Build 12.0.8089.726 on Vista, and have been running up against some issues. When I'm adding new contacts, I will see them appear on my Contact list. However, they never appear online. As well, when people add me, I never get notification, and they never see me online either. There is some sort of disconnect. The contacts that are already on my list show up fine - it's just the new contacts that have issues.

Do you have any add-ons for Windows Live Messenger?

Smiley Central, SweetIM, MessengerDisconvery, etc. are among the popular ones.

If you do, remove them, as they may be causing problems.

Have you tried on another computer? Does it work OK?

Have you tried using another account to add your main account, to see if the notification appears and whether or not they show up on your contacts list when online?

Have you tried reinstalling Windows Live Messenger?
Plus! offers an easy way to do this in Control Panel > Programs > Messenger Plus! Live > Change/Remove > Repair Messenger.
Alternatively, just uninstall Windows Live Messenger (look for 'Windows Live Essentials'), then re-download and install.

Try deleting contacts cache?

Have you checked on a different computer? Web messenger? ...

Have you tried any of the things I mentioned above??

Nope, no addons other than Plus!

I don't have another computer access it at the moment, am stuck with my one laptop.

I've tried it with another account - what they both say, actually, when I add a new contact is: "This Windows Live service isn't available right now, but we'll add _______ to your contacts as soon as the service is available again. You don't need to do anything else."

Should I reinstall?
