RE: Essentials Public Beta release
I got a problem.
I keep getting "you have 1 invitation" when i open messenger 15.3.2804.607, if i press on it on my windows live page says i got no invitation.
Sometimes happened with msn 2009 i use to go to user/appdata/windows live contacts/ and delete the stuff in there, msn recreated the users list in the next log in, and all was fine.
But now this doesn't work anymore, anyone knows where the contacts are stored now???

RE: Essentials Public Beta release
I very stronly suggest to anyone who is having a problem (even a small one) with the new version, to report their issues via the official channels.
Complaining here (or on other non-official MS forums) will not do you any good and, maybe more important, it will not do Messenger and other people having the same issues any good...
Issues can only get fixed if MS knows about it.
(and there is plenty to fix in this Beta)
So, head over to http://windowslivehelp.com/product.aspx?productid=2
Pick the correct subforum, search quickly if your issue isn't already talked about somewhere, and post your stuff...

RE: Essentials Public Beta release
What is up with this new MSN beta?
I can't see a way to change my screen name, both layouts (full and compact view) are horrible, sometimes I can't see the person-I'm-talking-to's DP and they can't see mine.
Only thing I like is tabbed conversations.
Everything else seems like a step back.

In the new WLM you cannot change your nickname. You can ONLY use your Full Name.
I also hate this feature. Please tell them what you think:

If a lot of people do, they will get the point and maybe change it!

The compact view is virtually exactly the same as WLM 2009
Also, I don't think they'll be removing the lack of display name as it's partly to tie in with the social integration which seems to be with big thing with the new release

Compact view basically has all of the people in the contacts lists crunched together, in the original it just listed them top to bottom, so at least I could see their full screen name / PM without having to hover my cursor over them.
The lack of the display name change is just stupid. It means I'm stuck with the previous screen name I had in the MSN before I downgraded to this beta.

I don't know what compact view you're looking at, but this is it:
Exactly the same as before! Perhaps try the contact list layout options if yours doesn't look right?
And having to mouse-over won't be a problem once everyone is using it and has their real name rather than a long display name

Your name on it will be whatever your name is set to in your Windows Live Profile (it may take a moment or two to update). If you want to change it, then change your name in there.

Just isn't the way I've liked using MSN.
I'm annoyed with these 'social integrations' going into everything, not that I'm anti-social, just some privacy issues amongst other things.
I'm also someone who frequently changes my screen name depending on what I'm doing, also it's easier to read / more noticeable than a PM.

Just give Live your feedback about how you don't like it!
