O.P. Using with contacts who do not have Msgr Plus

I am a newbie here, but it seems that using the functionality to change text attributes and send sounds only works if the other contact is using MSGR Plus. If not, they just see little boxes within the text.

Is that true, that I need to get my contacts to use Msgr + for many of these features to work?

Also, is there a way to stop teenagers from using some of these functions?
