No, the auto-update is only activated 1 week after the first new release (see the reasons below). And because of that there wasn't a new version notification yet.

well then its not really very useful then is it? if you cant update from the about plus screen but can from the website it makes no difference cause if i know i have a new relase of plus coming out on a date im ging to clog up your site all day by constantly browsing it until the updates there if i download the update from the site its no different than downloading it from the about plus screen other than at the about screen you cant save the download file. so if we all download from the site we are clogging up the server just the same as we would during auto update so why disable it it makes no sense.
No....

It is very usefull!

The 1 week delay on the auto-update is very good and has his reasons. The delay has always been there for the fact that if something needs to be changed after a version is released, it can be done before X million of users will recieve the update notification and try to download the new version.

If there wasn't a delay then those X million users will have to update again in a short timespan and that is what is meant with useless serverload. The handfull of people who refresh the downloadpage every second to see if there is a new version wont clog up the server...

To take raceprouk's good short example:

without the implemented delay:
- A several thousand downloading from the website.
(twice, because a new small bugfix update is released shortly after the new release => and this happens from time to time, see my Version List)
- millions of people downloading via auto-update.
(again twice!!!!, because a new small bugfix update is released shortly after the new release)

with the implemented delay:
- A several thousand downloading from the website.
(twice, because a new small bugfix update is released shortly after the new release)
- millions of people downloading via auto-update.
(only once, because they recieved the update notification after the new bugfix has been uploaded)
