Adware is just programs, and extra things on your computer that generally get in the way. As Carltos said, they can be an added bookmark or link on your desktop, however they are the milder forms. Adware can make popups randomly come up. It's just as the name says ad-ware...it can be noticed by the many ads displaying on your computer, or general icons on your desktop with things like "free casino" ect.
