I'm not sure its a problem with the pop3, I've deleted all of the cookies, so it should just start up the main gmail login screen, but it still comes up with the popup... I'm getting really agitated about it now...

I've sorted it out now, you have to delete all of the cookies, then restart Mozilla Firefox, after this you can simply log back on... Not quite sure what the problem was still though
