As blackjack said above, download ScanXMLLogs by Jonathan Kay. It can be found at jonathankay.com.
If I recall correctly, Microsoft will not fix this problem, so your only work-around to it is to use ScanXMLLogs regularly, or not use MSN Messenger's own logging feature until they release a fix, if they ever will, which I doubt. It seems it is now up to Patchou to fix this.
