Yes, but for Messenger Plus, Patchou didnt have to change the protocol did he? For different colours, he didnt have to change the protocol.. And you need Messenger Plus at each client side for the features to work. So there isn't any need for the modification of the MSN protocol.
It can work basicly in the same way as Custom sounds.
