Windows Live Messenger (WLM) will have a contact renaming feature too. And because Messenger Plus! Live (MP!L) will only work on WLM, i think MP!L won't have a contact renaming featue anymore. WLM's renaming feature is simply better, because it keeps emoticons intact

But you have to wait until WLM and MP!L will be publicly released for that.
