here the answer to some of your questions:
1. yes there is a new version called msg plus! live, its currently in the PRIVATE testing stages, and before you ask, all the tester have been chosen already
2. & 3. i can't answer
4. no WLM does not have tabbed chats, that is still on microsofts todo list
5.that would be pretty annoying, imo, seeing as not everyone wants to or even can update, since WLM is only for windows XP
