Thats very true in my old PC I had 256mb stick of ram and it dies on me but the pc could still "see" it but it wouldnt proccess anything meaning it cant boot up.

It doesnt do any harm that I have found. Unless you have VERY specific settings that cannot be changed. If not this is ok.
