Scripts and plugins are roughly the same. Both can do things which the other can't.

To state that scripts are overrated is also a big overstatement on its own. However, many (new) people do think you can do everything with scripts, which is of course far from the truth. It is a scripting language and you can only do that much with a scripting language. (though the language has been made powerfull enough with the interop objects to suite almost everybodies needs)

An advantage that scripts have is the easier programming for interaction between Messenger and the script. Plugins can do that stuff too, but it is harder to implement.

Scripts also provide a way to make something for beginning programmers and those who do not have a programming language development software.

btw (also for minipatchou), plugins can still be used in Plus! Live without problems provided you write a small wrapper script.
