Yes but you can't tell exactly how many posts they had when posting it.
you can! every page has 25 posts on it, so for the first 100 posts you'll have to look at the last 4 pages 
But that justs takes too much effort and the ability to count which i haven't got.
I bet more people want to keep it the way it is rather than change it as you suggest, so I guess you either have to live with it or learn to count.
