CSS rules do not apply to MySpace. MySpace seems to have invented its own CSS, it's got to be the most frustrating things about designing your own layout. It's one of those things which will require trail and error to get correct. I designed my layout from scratch using divs.
I suggest using a generator to get your layout in good shape, some produce pretty decent layouts, you just have to put in the creativity
