A 700MB Film ripped from a DVD is usually perfect quality and I've never experienced any great loss i nquality. I suppose it's all down to what your capable of watching without getting annoyed.
Yeah... but if you re-encode it to a 700MB MPEG-2 encoded film then it may look a bit worse for wear.
A dual-layer DVD is designed to hold 2 (SHQ) - 4 (HQ) - 6 (MQ) hours of video, but you can play about with compression and get it higher. However, after 6 or so hours the resolution needs dropped to around 376x252, which is crappy, especially if you have an HDTV.
(Nero Vision Express will do all this for you, but it's slow and can cause lag and stuff if you don't have the perfect codecs install).
