you will probably get better results disabling as much or norton as possible
(norton is dodgy it just sits on it's arse and tells you, you have a virus)

well to try a ping:
go to your target machine(any machine on the network)
and
start>run>cmd>ipconfig
write that down or remember it
go to your host machine(any other machine on the network)
and start>run>cmd>ping xxx.xxx.x.xxx(xxx's being the ip address you got from the target machine)
if the connection times out and it probably will
take alook at you subnet mask
start>run>cmd>ipconfig
it should say 255.255.0.0
it should match on all your computers if not well make it
in connection settings
