It wont show a DASH as your nickname in your contacts' list.
Agreed - When I tried it my Nickname showed up as totally empty (no dash) and (I had another account logged in for testing) it didnt appear as a dash from my other account either, just empty space 
Yep. Note, it will show a dash in the conversation window and if the contact hovers to see your e-mail address in their contact list.
