this feature would be very good.

There is know way i know of, of obtaining the version number, but if s/he is using msgplus is possible by sending '/ping'
and once sent, the information is accessible via the contact infomation, by right clicking the contact in the contact list.

based on the way files are sent, i do not believe this is possible.
