O.P. [Solved]What filesystem should a USB MP3 Player be formatted with?
Hello.

It seems that my 256MB MP3 USB player's HDD is having a problem...
I dont know, it could be because I left it in in the USB port for many hours, or because I usually don't remove it with the "Safely Remove Drive" option...

I plugged it in to put a song in it, and I found that almost all of my MP3s were missing (some of them were still there)
Both mp3 player and windows were saying that I had 26MB free (which would be true, if I could see the files...)

So, I chkdsked my mp3 player, and this is what happened:
code:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Mike>chkdsk /f /r i:

177094656 bytes in 2528 recovered files.
Windows is verifying free space...
Free space verification is complete.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

  257.531.904 bytes total disk space.
       81.920 bytes in 1 folders.
  229.679.104 bytes in 2.552 files.
   27.770.880 bytes available on disk.

4.096 bytes in each allocation unit.
62.874 total allocation units on disk.
6.780 allocation units available on disk.
I chose to recover everything that was possible to recover.
It seems that my MP3s were recovered, but very many files (2466 to be exact) were created that had size of 4KB.

I think about formatting the MP3 Player and recopying the MP3s again (I was lucky, and I copied my MP3s recently to my computer), however, I don't know with what file system I should format the MP3 player...
It came formatted with FAT16, but I can also formatted with FAT32.
I don't know if I should format it with FAT32, because I don't know if the MP3 player knows how to read that file system...

So, with what filesystem should I format the MP3 Player?
