Yes, a speed indicator would be nice.
The slow speeds have nothing to do with your living in Finland. This phenomenon with slow and even pausing Messenger transfers will occur anywhere that Messenger is unable to establish a direct connection between the sender and receiver. You'll notice that Messenger usually works just fine for LAN file transfers since the signal doesn't endure network address translation, firewalls and what not.
Anyway, try using the
File Transfer Plus script. Both the sender and receiver will need it. It will give you optimal speeds (even in Finland
) and a speed indicator if you manage to set it up properly.
