It all depends what you want it to do.
If you want a mac, the MacBook/MacBook pro is the only way to go. Macs are nice for their user friendly interface and great stability compared to other OS's. All (most new ones anyways) come with a built-in webcam and microphone, bluetooth, Wi-Fi and more useful features. Get a MacBook Pro for the power but they are rather large compared to the MacBooks.
If you want something like a gaming laptop (which suck tbh since they only last for like 30 mins on the battery) you should go with
alienware.
If you want something to last, I would get an
IBM Thinkpad (or lenovo, w/e they call them now).
You can also go with a tablet which is basically a laptop with a touchscreen and the screen rotates. I don't know much about them, so I can't recommend a company for you, so just do a quick
google search.
I don't know much about what laptops are the "best overall" so don't trust my word on it.
