Messenger Plus! isn't fully compatible with Live Messenger 2011 yet. A fully compatible Plus! version is expected in December. However, Plus! 4.9 is already partly compatible, see
Plus 4.9 on WLM 2011. Which features work and which ones don't.

You don't have to uninstall Messenger Plus!. Plus! isn't causing the new look. If you really want to go back you'll just have to uninstal Windows Live Essentials 2011, reboot, and download and uninstall
the latest Live Messenger 2009 build. But try switching to the regular Messenger layout in 2011 first as described above.
