You can set such privacy options for your Windows Live account on your Windows Live profile pages:

http://profile.live.com/Privacy/Advanced > Who Can Contact Me

Your friend probably needs to resend the invitation after you've change your privacy settings though. You can check your invites at http://profile.live.com/invites.
