O.P. Computer choice/help
Hhiya,
I was wondering if you could help me out here?
I've a choice of these...
An ADM Sepron 1.7ghz
Or a Intel Celeron D 320 2.8ghz
Which one should i get? because  ADM@s are topposed to be the best but the intel has a faster proccesor.
Thanks

I'd go with the ADM Sepron 1.7ghz, better quality. Even though the Intel is faster you will have more problems with it.

Intel may be faster Ghz wise but performance wise an AMD with a lower clock speed can often out perform an intel.
Also AMD give off less heat, and are more powerefficiant. Plus they rock :P.

lmao i read an article in APC magazine, comparing Intel's and AMD. what they did to test the heat they gave off was they used the CPU as a hotplate and found which one cooked and egg the fastest. it was funny. needless to say it was the AMD that came out as the one that gave off the least amount of heat. GO AMD

Processor clock speeds are inherently meaningless, and are only useful for measuring relative performance of two identical processors clocked differently. What you really want is a comparison of something more meaningful, like a FLOPS comparison.

FLOPS: floating-point operations per second e.g. how many times it can do 3.1415 + 1.414 in one second.

As a lot of people have already said, AMD processors are said to be comparable to the performance of a faster Intel. I'd go for the Intel, for the raw speed (and because I always have), but; I would choose an Athlon or a Pentium, nor a Sempron or Celeron, these are just feature lacking versions of their bigger brothers (less cache and such).

I saw some processors been run without HSFs and the AMD burnt up :p

yeh that's true, but that doesnt mean it generates more heat :P. i'm pretty sure that what an intel does is that it senses when it's overheated and then it stops, where as an AMD doesnt? or something like that... i cant exactly remember
