O.P. Hidden Websites?
I've been hearing this from time to time and I was interested to see if it was true. Are there really hidden websites that only people with certin programs installed or encryptions can see?

RE: Hidden Websites?
There are internal sites like http://messenger-int.msn.com

But other then that I would think there would be websites that would require a certain certificate to be viewable.

It means its only viewable in the network computers at msn's headquarters or office buildings.

Its not made public for everyone to see on the web.

--------------------EDIT--------------------

I found what I was looking for. After many hours of extensive Google searching and only a handful of results I managed to squeeze out the info I wanted. Since these sites are hidden there is very little info on them, thus making it very hard for me to discover. But! I have, and now that I have it seems easy to find them :P

The Tor Network - http://tor.eff.org/       - ex. of web address: http://6sxoyfb3h2nvok2d.onion
The I2P Network - http://www.i2p.net/   - ex. of web address: http://search.i2p/

If you already know about these then don't spoil my fun by saying "This is old news" bla bla bla, this is the first time I've seen this and I think its pretty kool.

Ofcourse there are... there are millions of sites which aren't availible for general public...

- Some might work with IP filters where it appears like the site doesn't exsists when your IP is not allowed
- Some may require that you install a certain application before you can access the site
- There are even entire TLDs like .indy, .geek and .null to just name a few which you can't access unless you use an alternate DNS rootserver. For more info on that, see Alternative DNS root on WikiPedia.

You can also use Tor and I2P for P2P programs like Torrents ;)

Shocked  RE: RE: Hidden Websites?

there are also milnet sites eg: http://www.royalmarinescommandos.com/
rite at the start when the internet was being invented it was called the milnet and was only for the uk nd us armys to comunicate during the cold war a site was created for each section of each army eg:
the royal marines commandos
(british army division)
after the war the milnet was changed to the internet and was opened to the public although some divisions kept there site and just blocked it to the public

try the link below

The Royal Marines Commandos Milnet Site
I know that I have been a bad member in the past... please... Im so sorry... I am making a fresh start and I hope you will allow this to happen...

Thanks for all the info :D

All this has got me thinking. How did Tor get there TLD registered as .onion? Do they run there own server for the .onion?
