As posted in hundreds and hundreds of threads already (always search forums first before posting!!!
):
msmsgs.exe is not a virus or whatever, it is Windows Messenger.
Windows Messenger is also an IM client and is installed by default in Windows. It also provides functions for MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger, so do not remove it/uninstall it.
Windows Messenger is more pointed towards bussiness use, while MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messnger is more pointed towards recreational use.
Windows Messenger can be found in the folder C:\Program Files\Messenger.
To
properly disable Windows Messenger from starting up in the background (don't follow any other 'advise'),

unrelated problem. Might be a hickup in Word or even a bug. Simply kill its process in your Task Manager (or restart your computer)
