anyway more importantly, wtf @ that site having a javascript alert that says "News" when it loads. dodgy.

Australia has had white Christmases before, a lot of it because of huge cold winds coming up from Antarctica.  Though I did hear a story about a guy who is on holidays from England and they don't get snow wherever he live and he's never had a white Christmas until he came to Australia. Irony?
