Doesn't Ubuntu have to be installed onto a virtual disk from inside Windows to be accessed by virtual PC. IIRC virtual PC saves all file to a virtual hard disk so the whole thing runs in a "sandbox"

I had to use the Knoppix ISO to boot in the Virtual PC and then install it as normal onto a Virtual Hard Disk. It runs fine now

RE: Ubuntu + Virtual PC Console
You might be able to get away with installing VMWare and allowing an Ubuntu image to load from the entire partition... other then that no you have to install the OS from inside the APP.

You have to pay for it? I have it. Isn't there a free version? VMWare player

IIRC VMWare Workstation is not free (~$189USD), but VMWare Player is free to download and use, only problem with that is that you need a software that creates virtual machine files that VMWare Player can read. I personally use PC User Virtual Machine Shop Lite which i got from an Australian PC magazine, although i have had to edit the vmx files to make it work properly.

AFAIK you must have virtual disk files so that VMWare Player can read from that

I Probably wouldnt do that (expecially if youre running vista). Apparantly the uploader of the torrent that has VMWare Workstation has said that if you do not remove the VMWareAuditService.exe (something like that) from startup, then everytime you use VMWare Workstation, VMWare will check your product licence, and if it is not valid then they will black list your IP. Also by removing the startup entry on Vista, it renders the whole program unusable. I could be wrong as i dont know this for a fact (except the Vista thing), but i will get the source of my info
EDIT: Torrent and Source removed from mininova, but i found the original torrent file that stated the problem for vista here
