Salutes to the worlds oldest democracy!

Iceland hass the worlds oldest Democracy, dating back to 930 ad (as far as I am aware) while Great Britain is the oldest surviving Democracy, dating 1265 onwards.

The US isn't in the top 3 oldest surviving Democracies in the world and not a lot of American's know this.  Mind you, 20 or so years ago when Geldof wsa doing live aid most Americans interviewed DID NOT know where Africa was, go figure.

Oh, just realised I never said "happy 4th", oh well "don't" have a happy 4th .

That prompted me for a research.... The google search immediately led to your conclusion. But there was a contradiction to that ... They say Democracy existed in 'BC' era

So as far as modern demoracy system is taken into consideration, Brits were not democratic while under Queen. So it has to be US. If the criteria of democracy is britains', then even Athens/greece had democracy in Bc's

The US has the oldest surviving Republic, but Great Britain does beat it under the term Democracy for age, not that that is a good thing mind.  Parliament is older than the Senate you could say.  Greece & Rome were Republics.
