Hi,

I "updated" my gmail account to a Windows Live account thanks to the Passport.net website.
Now I can use WLM with my Gmail account but there were no contacts on my list. I added everyone from my gmail account but unfortunately I cannot chat with them

Is there a patch or something to allow this? (they only use Gtalk or the Gmail integrated chat).
Do they necessary need to upgrade their gmail account on Windows Live?

You did not integrate your Gmail account with your WL account. You just made a new WL account whose "username" happens to be the same as your Gmail.

WLM and Gtalk are completely independent and don't talk with each other.
