O.P. In a LAN: Starting MSN in PC2 reboots PC1
A really rare problem:
I have a LAN with two PC's connected to each other, sharing files and internet connection.
PC1 - Server, WinXP Pro
PC2 - Client, Win98SE
Whenever I start MSN Messenger (Latest public beta) on PC2, strangly and immediatly, PC1 reboots.
Does any of you knows what could it be?

More info about the error:
No viruses nor spywares were found on PC2.
Antivirus installed on both PC's: avast!
Firewall installed on PC1: Sygate.
When I start a session of MSN Messenger at PC2 (6.2 or 7, it's the same), PC1 freezes and has a typical blue screen of WinXP, with the following error:
Problem originated in file: Teefer.sys
There was an attempt of writing in reading only memory.
*** STOP: 0x000000BE (0xF5CE9D2C, 0x057FA121, 0xF9EE5CAC, 0X0000000B)

robochief, it seems its a vulnerability of your firewall, There is a lot of information on it.

Thanks to Google and you people, I could fix the problem.
As you said, it was the firewall Sygate.
Uninstalled it and returned to ol' ZoneAlarm.
All systems stable and running.

Of course I'd buy a router, the only thing is that I don't have the money to buy it...

Doesn't for me.
Yes, routers are perhaps cool. But an incorrectly setup one can lead to a ton of problems. Beware.
