segosa recently pointed me to VLC player... ( http://www.videolan.org ). it uses its own codecs and plays any file (almost)...

surpasses any player for videos (y)

hmm yeah this is very previewy. i tried it and i think i had forgotten what the word "beta" meant because i was expecting it to work perfectly. all these companies come out with beta products that work really well so i think people are starting to think beta doesnt mean anything (Google being the worst culprit)
and this version of quicktime really brought me back to earth with a crash and reminded me of what beta software used to be like. the HD support is terrible.
the new H264 codec really isnt all that good im hoping they improve it significantly for the final release.
oh and blade i dont see how this is better than windows media player. it seems to be missing a lot of the basic funtions of a media player, i only use it for playing .mov videos.

I like Quicktime for viewing streamed videos. (y), Good little player.

I only got the 7 preview to watch that video from an article on Neowin showing The new Mac OS that's compatible with Intel CPUs running on an Intel laptop because the video was made on a Mac that has 7 included already :P
