RE: "Insert Service Pack 2 CD"
why would a windows that was installed without sp2 be asking for a disk with sp2? anyway you can mount cd images using DAEMON Tools it is an emulator that adds virtual cd drives into your computer you just need a 1:1 image

code:

RE: "Insert Service Pack 2 CD"
Your thread title is lying, the message says "Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD".

The disk it is asking for is Windows XP, Home Edition, with Service Pack 2, not Service Pack 2 for Windows XP.  This is what you would get if you bought Windows XP in a store today. if you buy a Service Pack 2 CD, it won't be any use.

The Cd you need looks like this.

Your Windows XP (RTM) or Windows XP with SP1 CD may be sufficient, so just try that.

If it doesn't work, there are more options available to you.

You could borrow a Windows XP with Service Pack 2 CD from a friend (I'd make a copy of it as well so you don't have to borrow it again). It needn't be Home Edition.

You could download Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (:o warez exist!).

With a Windows XP (RTM or with SP1) CD, and the Service Pack 2 file (~250MB) you can make a CD equivilant to a Windows XP with Service Page 2 CD. This process is called making an integrated CD and also known as slipstreaming.

Note that "Windows XP with Service Pack 2" is not the same as "Windows XP and also Service Pack 2 on the same disk". This is referred to by Microsoft as "Windows XP Feature Level Service Pack 2". I use the different name for clarity.

This file has been downloaded 761 time(s).

I have tried it. The folder did not exist as it does not have SP2 on it.

Maybe because I have Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 (which I downloaded) ?
P.S. Welcome to the forum

Thank you. It worked.
It was looking for file "usbser.sys" in c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 but it's accually C:\WINDOWS\Service_Pack_Files\i386 which is why it wasn't working.

Installed the driver and I think everything is working. Thanks all.

But it tells me it's £6 on the website! and then asks for credit card details!

Am I doing something wrong? Anyone else get this?

Exactly, a "Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD"
My Windows XP Home Edition CD doesn't have Service Pack 2 on it.
Even if it did, it would only search for the SP2 files, which are exactly the same as the ones on the SP2 CD.

does that make sense at all :S

Sorry, it doesn't.

- I have Windows XP Home Edition
- I downloaded Service Pack 2 [Windows Update]
- My Windows XP Home Edition CD does not have SP1 or SP2 on it

Hope that clears things up.
