Nope. No firefox extensions dealing with google or anything.

exactly. Isnt there a way we can tell google that we would rather prefer a simple, clean and fast search engine like the old google with a similar mail service like gmail without the chat. The chatting feature while checking your mail is simply silly

odd coz the google page i use is www.google.com.au an its still the same old page,

this is where they can fall back on 'its just a beta'

its a random thing with a cookie. You can try and make it use the new page by trying this: http://www.downloadsquad.com/2006/03/24/try-out-googles-new-interface/ (need firefox).
