Your real regedit executable would be c:\windows\regedit
.exe -- it's neither a .COM type file, nor is it ever installed in the system32 folder.
The .COM executable is
not a legitimate Windows file, but something dropped by spyware or a virus, perhaps some variant of
Alcan.a. I'd suggest scanning your system thoroughly.
You can try typing the full pathname of the real regedit (above) and see if that works -- when you type just "regedit", Windows searches a numer of directories in a certain order and obviously finds the bogus file first.
