O.P. msg fails after install of msg plus
I was running msn 7.5 and plus 3.  This morning I had to reboot my machine and I got a message that plus had a failing and it would repair the files.  Well, it appears it did a GREAT job, as msn wouldn't come up successfully.  It would come most of the way and then would disappear if I put my cursor over the icon on the tray and the system would ask if I wanted to send the debug info.  If I removed plus, msn would be ok, so its related to plus itself.

I tried installing plus; no change.  I removed both msn and plus and started all over; no change.

Then I decided to upgrade (maybe there was something wrong with the 7.5 installation).  I am now on msg live 8 and plus 4.10.  No different!!

HELP!!

Have a read of that post and follow it, if that doesn't work, I'll see if I can come up with another solution.

I haven't wiped them both out, but before upgrading I wiped out the Plus directory, rebooted, and tried the install again.  I'll give it a try at removing both softwares, their directories, reboot, and reinstall.  I won't be able to do that until tonight (work environment and they expect me to do some :).
I did exactly what you suggested...and the same result.  msmsgr dies!  I remove plus and msmsgr is ok.

Do you have something like Smiley Central or SweetIM installed?

IF the answer is yes remove them and see if that helps, addons such as Smiley Central or SweetIM are known to have conflicts with Messenger Plus!

nothing like that is installed.  I item that I don't think I mentioned is that Plus complained when I took the PC down and this all started.  It commented that there was some issue and should it repair.  Now I'm wondering if this was a possible virus :S

Highly unlikely, but there could be a virus preventing Plus! from working properly . Run some virus and spyware scans to see if anything is wrong in that department.

Well there's one thing that's sure: Messenger Plus! never complains about possible missing file (it just stops working) and never ever attempts to repair anything, with or without asking you. This means that some other software is currently installed on your system.
