Domain names can't really be changed. You would have to register a new one and make sure it's set up to point to the right place. You might as well keep the old one until it expires since you've paid for it already.
If you are using URL redirection services (like cjb.net, dot.tk etc), not your own proper domain name then you can just sign up for a new one. Again, you can leave the old one as well as there sin't a need to remove it and it will only help people find you.

If you paid to register it, some domain sellers will allow you (within a reasonable time frame) to change it without problem. I only know of one company that does this; eNom.
