Well... I had that problem, but when I used 9.0 [I suggest you all not to use it while it is beta]. To solve that, I had to reinstall messenger, and solved the problem. Try that then tell us if it solved! =D

What version do you suggest I try please?
The best would be only reinstalling your current version, since it is the newest available
