O.P. MPEG to AVI Converter
Does anyone know of a good MPEG to AVI converter (preferably free or trial download). I have tried googling this and tried all the ones google gave me, basically they were all crap because they didnt work, or they only converted half of it.
So if anyone know of any good converters, please tell me

Mencoder
Has no GUI, but it's VERY customizable and fast.
I use it too, and it might seem hard to use but the basic functions are pretty straightforward and you can set up profiles, for example if you set up a profile for avi files, you simply do code: mencoder.exe -profile avi <input file> -o <output file>

RE: MPEG to AVI Converter
MPEG is a set of codec standards, and avi is a container format, so what you're saying could be interpreted in many ways...
if you mean you'd like to convert a DVD (MPEG-2) into a smaller format that is stored inside the avi container and playable on your PC (using xvid or H264 as codec for example) then get Handbrake.
if you want to convert from VCD (MPEG-1) into a smaller format ... etc, then perhaps avidemux, VirtualDub, manually using mencoder or using mewig as linked to above.

RE: MPEG to AVI Converter
I've been using WinAVI for some time now, I think it's been really effective, at least for the uses I've put it to...
You can get a free trial from their website:
http://www.winavi.com/en/download/download.htm
It'll do MPEG - AVI at least.
Hope this helps
