O.P. not on skype for windows 8 app?
Is it correct that I can only use plus for the desktop application and not for the metro app?

Correct.  Messenger Plus! (for Skype) does not work for metro.

For metro - not in near future.  Developers are working on new features/(Including some msgplus for wlm features) for  desktop app.
