O.P. Microsoft: Security Warning POPUP
look at this:
and when i click on the first lik.. it brings me to here
... anyone else get this.. it looks fake

its real....... why not click "Microsoft Corporation" and inspect the certificate??? and that IS the WMP 9 series site

MP3 is done by the Fraunhofer Institut, but the codec is distributed by Microsoft (and certified by Microsoft)

i wasn't on any web site, just popped up when i was listening to music... (yes i use MP9 to listen to music.. maybe thats why )

u cna ALWAYS verify the security certificate. and it is ALWAYS (well, nearly) accurate.

WMP uses a sort of IE to access the media and download codecs from time to time, when needed. Nothing else.

Unless it's a fake security alert (i wouldn't see why, if the virus can fake the alert it might as well install itself) you know it's real without viewing the certificate because Verisign wouldn't give a certificate to anyone under the name of Microsoft unless it was Microsoft itself...
