The length isn't much... i've only got 6 chars left, and its because of the links Cant it be made longer or, if there is a way, make the [url] tags so they dont kick into the maximumum chars?

That would be quite handy.

A few times I've not been able to make my signature what I intended to because the [url] or [img] tags added to the total characters.

Yeah thats the [problem i have now

i want to change the "Sign up at new forums" link at the bottom of my sig to a different link but cant because the link is too long

If I made the limit higher, you'd add more crap, and then complain again when you can't modify that...

just make it so the bbcodes dont use up chars

I'd turn off sig viewing altogether if i wasnt a mod.

Images in sigs is another issue I'd like to remove... But i'm not even going to propose it. I'm totally out-numbered.

It would make the forums faster though.

Actually, I had signatures off for a long time untill a few weeks ago for that exact reason.  I agree that large images and lots of text shouldn't be allowed, but I think there should be a enough "room" to make it what you want...within reason.

Maybe you could make [img][/img] tags add to the length but not [url][/url] tags?

yeh what WDZ said, the limit is there 4 a reason, cuz u'd probably get idiots putting reaaaaaally long stuff in theyre sigs. causing the forums to go even more slower
