O.P. cannot encrypt files

When i try and encrypt my chat logs, it says that windows cannot encrypt chat logs, how do i get windows to encrypt chat logs?

Windows Version: Windows 2000, 5.00.2195
Messenger Client Version: 6.1.0211
Messenger Plus! Version: 2.54.0074

I'm guessing but what about getting the latest Service Pack?
