I don't know whether this is a bug or a limitation.

After I signed in, I had 2 messages in my inbox. Then I reset Plus!'s preferences, and it said, "No new e-mail messages."

Could those email messages have been in a POP email box, and when you reset the settings, the POP settings were removed?

No...
It has nothing to do with POP mail.
Actually, I don't set Plus! to notify new email for me .

Let me re-tell it
I signed in and I got a notification that I had 2 new e-mails in my Hotmail account. I saw "2 new e-mail messages" on the top of the contact list.
But, after I reset the Plus! preferences, the "2 new e-mail messages" disappeared.

I just think that it's supposed to stay "2 new e-mail messages" although I reset Plus!.

I'm presuming that you've read the mail by now. Do a test. Log Into hotmail, send yourself a mail, and if Plus! says you've got an email, your sound

Anyway, I did a test. And it was true that the number of new messages in the contact list became 0 (zero) after I reset Plus! preferences.

If you reset your preferences, the pop3 settings have been cleared, you need to add them back .
