O.P. Msg Plus! Compatibility
I was just curious, how does msg plus! figure out if its compatible or not? like does it just read the version info of msn messenger/ windows messenger?

another reason i'm askin is b/c i have Longhorn, and yes i know its not suported etc etc blah blah but windows messenger is kinda odd the way they have it setup, just for ur info: quote from another form (http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=205335#205335)

"....i'm lookin into and there is 2 .exe files in C:\Program Files\Messenger
1- msmsgs.exe (version 6.0.0101)
2- winmsgr.exe (version 6.0.4074.0)

when u click on msmsgs.exe it just causes an error and closes, but it doesn't harm winmsgr.exe when it has the error.

if i run winmsgr.exe in windows 2000 compatibity mode it runs fine, logs in no problem and i can talk to people. msn messenger still won't let me talk...

i would like to get msn messenger working so i can use msn messenger plus!, unless theres a way i can get it to work on windows messenger. but i don't think thats possible because its not gona work on a version that doesn't exist anywhere except in LH."

btw, the version #'s are alot different but i have not found any new functions or anything visualy different, i have read some ppl think its exactly the same but with a different version # for LH. also just and observation, winmsgr.exe (version 6.0.4074.0)  (the longhorn build i have is 4074.....(latest btw))

It checks. It either doesn't install, or gives you a compatibility error message.

I think its very likely its done using version numbers because I'm guessing every different version has a slightly different hooking procedure because of the advanced features plus! offers.

You could try editing the version numbers of the executables (well the windows messenger which is working anyway)..im been told its possible through reshack but im unsure about that, It could just fuck everything up completely. This would be at ure own risk if its even possible.

Also, can you not even download an older version of windows messenger?

Nope, the compatibility window is displayed when some essential hooks cannot be performed. If you get this message, it really means that Plus! cannot function properly.
