O.P. MSN logs merging?
Hi!

Could anyone tell if there is a tool for merging several msn log files (not plus logs, but could apply as well)?

I have two computers, and use msn on both of them (not at the same time of course, I have just one login), and I after formatting the hard-drives a few times I have several .xml files for the same contacts...

What I'm searching is an automated process for detecting dates and sorting logs in a new file...

Help?

I don't think there's such tool. For Plus' logs, you can open them in notepad and copy-paste from one to another (that's dodgy, i know, but there's no other way to do it, and i had to do it a couple of times and it works)

The same can be done for xml messenger logs, but it may be more complex.

In any case, you have to it by hand :-/

U might b able 2 make both computers logs copy to 1 file, eg

Logs (not Plus!)

In msn main window>Personal settings>Messages>tick the 'Automatically keep a history of my conversations' and change the url to 1 accessable by both computers

Logs (With Plus!)

Type /config in a convo window and press enter>Logging>Chat logging>Again, change ur logs directory to 1 accessible by both comps and select the checkbox 'Automattically log all my chats by default

thats a pretty good idea actually, but there would need to be some place that the files can both be accessed, the most obvious place is a shared folder but that requres both computers to be networked together, and for one pc to be switched on constantly. Another thing you could do, which i havent tried yet, but will soon is to use MSN Web Folders.

so i doubt anyone has a program that gathers all .xml files and outputs to a big .xml file by Time and date.

that'd be awesome :)

if you have xp, go to My Network Places, and click on MSN Web Folders (it my be only xp sp2 though) sign in with your passport and you basically get some folders that are stored on the net.
