O.P. Messenger Plus! Preventing saving of MSN Messenger settings.
This was a bug from a version ages and ages ago and it seems to have crept back up. Whenever I shut down windows, my background and picture settings in MSN messenger aren't being saved. I'm pretty sure it's an MSN Plus! problem, but I could be wrong. Is anyone else having this problem?

Windows Version: Windows XP, 5.01.2600
Messenger Client Version: 6.2.0133
Messenger Plus! Version: 3.01.0094

Thanks,

kop48 :)

Oh, and it only seems to be happening since verion 3.01. Version 3.0 seemed fine last time I remember.... :)

I sometimes get this with my DP's. But I'm not that bothered about it. My backgrounds are fine mind you

Its a problem with MSN Messenger. If you are really concerned with it then before you restart your computer make sure you Exit MSN Messenger from the system tray (task bar) so that it will save the settings.

I'll try shutting down MsgPlus before I shut down my computer to see if this IS the problem. I'll post it here Patchou. :)

RE: Messenger Plus! Preventing saving of MSN Messenger settings.
It can also be a problem with MSN Messenger itself, unrelated to Messenger Plus!....

To make sure and to rule that out (or hopefully to fix it) try the following things:

Basic MSN Messenger option:
Go to "Tools > Options > Privacy" and make sure that this checkbox is unchecked: "this is a shared computer so don't store my adress book, display picture, or background on it"

If this was checked then that was your problem, if not, try the next thing...

MSN Messenger bug:
1) Close MSN Messenger completely (right click its icon in your systemtray and choose "exit")
2) Now delete the following folder. (Note: By doing this you will loose all your currently installed Display Pictures, Emoticons and Backgrounds):
\Documents and Settings\<windows accountname>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\<your_MSN_ID_number>\
3) Restart MSN Messenger

PS: to find exactly what your MSN ID number is you can use this program: http://shoutbox.menthix.net/attachment.php?pid=132217. Just run it and fill in your email that you use for MSN.
PSS: If there is only 1 MSN ID number then don't bother checking it, it will be yours, so delete it ;)

Well, it's not option a, and the reason I know this is because if I shut down Plus! before shutting down MSN, the savings are saved. I know this was the problem before when Patchou acknowledged he had a bug in it (version 2.something ages back) and this was how I fixed it.

Anything else you would like me to try?

You could try using Lopardo's apploader and if you install the Plus! plugin that comes with it, you can set it up to close Plus! when you close MSN. Just be sure you have it close Plus! before MSN, obviously.

The only way to know if it was "option a" is to go to the options of messenger and look if that setting is unticked... If the setting was ticked, then Plus! can have all the bugs you want or work as perfect as you want, your CE/DP/Backgrounds wont be saved....

Well, does it fix the problem now? Thus when you kill msgplus before exiting Messenger, does Messenger save your CE/DP/background then?

If this is so, then why didn't you said that before :p? In that case it is a Plus! bug....
