This is pretty straightforward - there's no way to manually start the update function in MsgPlus!. (if there is, it's nice and obscure)

'Twould be very nice to be able to update MsgPlus at my leisure (and not whenever I'm downloading over pitiful 56k, which seems to be MsgPlus's moment of choice to decide I need to update).

Go to Plus > About > Check for updates... if an update is available you can download it...

This is not obscure at all as many programs will have a similar update function in their about window....
