O.P. logging of msn-plus-conversations
dear members,

As office manager of a very small business i'm responsable of the effectiveness of work of my employees. I noticed that the employees use MSN Messenger Plus during office hours. I would like to know all about their communications on Messenger Plus : the contacts and the content of the talks they have during office hours. This to garantee the privacy of our business. Who can give me hint ?
Thanks

Messenger Plus! offers the possibility to log all conversations automatically. This is the default preference. You can go to Plus! > Preferences > Logging to change the logging settings, including the logging directory.

You can also protect the Preferences with a password to prevent employees disabling the logging feature. However, there is nothing that prevents employees from disabling the logging feature for a specific conversation by disabling it in the Plus! menu in that conversation.

if all your employees have seperate accounts (assuming they have chat logs turned on)
then u need look no further than their user account directory\my chat logs
if they dont have it turned on then u will have to turn it on by going to Main messenger window> Plus!> preferences > logging and ticking the box that says "log all my chats by default"

Personally i don't object to logging employees at times they should work. However, please notify your employees that chat will be logged. It's just not right to go and read somebody's private chats. If they are warned about logging they will also stop talking about private things during work times which will make them work more effective too :).

To enable logging and make sure logging stays on:
  • Let the employee log in to his MSN adress.
  • Go to Plus! > Preferences > Logging.
  • Set the logging directory, put it on a netwrok share/drive if you wish.
  • Check "Automatically log all my chats by default".
  • Set other logging options as you like them.
  • Go to Plus! > Preferences > Logging > Passwords.
  • Check "Enable preferences lock-down" and set a password for it.
  • Press "OK" and you're done.
The employee will now have all his chats logged and he/she won't be able to make changes to the preferences panel anymore without the password. But, the employee can still open up a chatwindow, go to the Plus! menu and simply uncheck "Log this chat". Which enables them to nog log the chat in that window. Plus! is just not really designed for this kind of situations, i'll suggest to use another program for real chat monitoring.
